FINTRAC MSB Status and Our AML Program

GlacierPay is a FINTRAC registered MSB, and this article explains what that means and the pillars of our anti-money-laundering program.

GlacierPay operates as a money services business (MSB) registered with FINTRAC, Canada's financial intelligence unit. Registration brings clear obligations, and meeting them is central to how we run the desk and protect our clients.

What MSB registration means

As a registered MSB, we are subject to Canada's anti-money-laundering and counter-terrorist-financing regime. That includes verifying our clients, monitoring activity, keeping records, and reporting certain transactions to the regulator as required by law.

The pillars of our program

Our compliance program is built on the components a regulated MSB is expected to maintain. Together these keep the desk safe and our clients within a well-controlled environment.

  • A designated compliance officer accountable for the program
  • Documented policies, procedures, and risk assessment
  • Client identification and ongoing due diligence
  • Transaction monitoring and regulatory reporting
  • Record keeping and periodic independent review

These obligations are not friction for its own sake. They give institutional clients confidence that the counterparties on the desk are screened and that the platform is operated to a recognised standard.
